The New York Giants finished with a 3-14 record in the 2024 NFL season, and they had the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Giants drafted Penn State Nittany Lions edge rusher Abdul Carter with that pick.

New York also decided to trade up from 34th overall to 25th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft with the Houston Texans to select quarterback Jaxson Dart from the Ole Miss Rebels. The Giants have some key building blocks now for the future and New York should be better in 2025 right? Well, New York will have one of the hardest schedules in the NFL in 2025 despite finishing in fourth place in the NFC East in 2024. If the Giants don’t show much improvement in 2025, there is a chance that head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen could both be fired.
NFL Analyst Thinks That the New York Giants Could Land Number One Overall Pick In 2026 NFL Draft and Pass On a Quarterback

Mark Stolte of profootballnetwork.com created his latest 2026 NFL mock draft. He thinks that the Giants could land the worst record in the NFL in 2025. If this were the case, New York would have the number one overall pick. Stolte thinks that the Giants would pass on a quarterback if they had the number one overall pick.
With this pick, he would have New York selecting Miami Hurricanes offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa. Stolte said,
“With the assumption that Arch Manning won’t declare for the 2026 NFL Draft, I can’t justify taking any of the quarterbacks No.1, especially with the New York Giants taking Jaxson Dart in the first round just a few months ago. With that being said, the franchise certainly doesn’t need another edge rusher. That’s the one position they are loaded at.
This means the choice here for the Giants is my top right tackle, Francis Mauigoa. Mauigoa is 6’6″ 315 pounds, and moves really well. While I have Proctor slightly higher on my board, Mauigoa fits the Giants better as he is a natural right tackle who will go opposite of Andrew Thomas. He allowed just one sack and ranked 51st among 241 offensive tackles in pressures allowed per snap, according to TruMedia.”
Once again, the offensive line will be a major question mark for New York entering the 2025 season. It was a lot better in 2024 before injuries piled up. The projected starting offensive line for the Giants will be Andrew Thomas at left tackle, Jon Runyan at left guard, John Michael Schmitz Jr. at center, Greg Van Roten at right guard, and Jermaine Eluemunor at right tackle.
Evan Neal will be a backup offensive lineman for New York, and he will be a guard after being moved from the tackle position. The Giants have some older players on the offensive line, and they made need to find some younger players moving forward. Mauigoa will be the best offensive tackle potentially available in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Even if New York does not have the number one pick in the 2026 NFL Draft also, there is a chance that the Giants could draft more offensive line help anyways and it may not even be Mauigoa. It would be a major surprise if New York had the top choice in the 2026 NFL Draft. Even with the tough schedule, they are not the worst team in the NFL and there are at least five teams that will be worse than the Giants during the 2025 NFL season.
