“The Chiefs’ Offensive Line Completely Fell Apart”: Kansas City Chiefs Has One Burning Question Entering OTAs

The Kansas City Chiefs have been in the Super Bowl for the last five of six seasons. In the two Super Bowls they lost, the offensive line was absolutely demolished.

At some point, the Chiefs run to the Super Bowl game will eventually come to an end. For now, Kansas City will need to completely fix its offensive line so they can maximize the most out of the Patrick Mahomes era. If the offensive line is not fixed, then it could open up some doors for some other teams in the AFC during the 2025 NFL season.

Kansas City Chiefs Offensive Line Has Biggest Question Entering OTAs

Jared Dubin of CBS sports wrote one burning question for each AFC team entering OTAs. For Kansas City, he thinks the left tackle position will be the biggest story to watch for during OTAs. Dubin said,

“The Chiefs’ offensive line completely fell apart last season, with the failure of Patrick Mahomes‘ blind-side protection causing cascading problems elsewhere. Kansas City signed Jaylon Moore in free agency and then drafted Josh Simmons. Who wins that job? Is Simmons healthy enough to play right away? And will whomever emerges as the starter actually hold up?”

Simmons was drafted in the first-round of the 2025 NFL Draft from the Ohio State Buckeyes. Not only is left tackle going to be a problem for them, but Kansas City also traded away Joe Thuney to the Chicago Bears in the offseason.

For now, Moore will be the projected left tackle, and Mike Caliendo will be the starting left guard. Creed Humphrey will be the starting center, Trey Smith will be the starting right guard, and Jawaan Taylor will be the starting right tackle. Taylor has been an issue for Kansas City at the right tackle position because of all the penalties he has committed.

Yes, the blindside for Mahomes is going to be a problem potentially. However, head coach Andy Reid is going to have to figure out a game-plan to navigate through it. Kansas City went 15-2 during the regular season in 2024 and it appears if the win number will dip in 2025. There is a chance that the Chiefs will have an issue at the line of scrimmage in 2025 and could cost them more games than they would like.
