The Buffalo Bills have had great regular seasons over the last several years with quarterback Josh Allen and they have won several AFC East crowns along the way. As always, Buffalo has one major stumbling block along the way in the playoffs and that is the Kansas City Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Many people thought that the Bills were robbed in the AFC Championship Game against the Chiefs because of the horrendous officiating. Entering the 2025 season, Buffalo is one of the best teams in the NFL and they need to find a way to get over the hump and beat Kansas City in the playoffs. Allen also won his first NFL MVP Award as well during the 2024 season in the NFL.
NFL Analyst Creates Harsh Reality For the Buffalo Bills Before the 2025 NFL Season Begins
Frank Schwab of Yahoo Sports is winding down his NFL power rankings list before the 2025 NFL season. He has the Bills as the fifth-best team in the NFL. Schwab has Buffalo as a serious contender in the AFC. However, Schwab also had a harsh reality for this franchise over the last several years. He said,
“The Kansas City Chiefs are the Michael Jordan-era Chicago Bulls, making so many Super Bowls that it’s hard for anyone else to get a piece of the action.
That makes the Buffalo Bills the Charles Barkley of this era. Maybe that makes the Baltimore Ravens the modern day Patrick Ewing. Or they can call dibs on John Stockton and Karl Malone. Maybe Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp.
It’s impossible to talk about the Josh Allen Bills (or the Lamar Jackson Ravens, which we’ll get to later in the countdown) without talking about the Chiefs. This era of Bills football has been tremendous. The franchise didn’t win one playoff game from the end of the 1995 season to the 2020 season, Josh Allen’s third year with the team. They went 17 seasons without making the playoffs at all. Now the Bills are playoff regulars. They’ve won five AFC East titles in a row after going 24 seasons without winning one. Allen won NFL MVP last season, becoming the first Bills quarterback to ever win the award. It has been a glorious stretch for Buffalo.
And yet, for all of the excitement Allen has created, and for all of the team success after nearly a quarter century of ineptitude, it has also been very frustrating. That’s because of Mahomes and the Chiefs.”
This is an interesting comparison, but the Chiefs are 3-2 in Super Bowls with Mahomes and they’re not 5-0. Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is the only other quarterback from the AFC within the last six seasons to reach the Super Bowl. The Bills with Allen and the Baltimore Ravens with quarterback Lamar Jackson leading the way are hoping it will finally be there turn for a Super Bowl appearance.
Buffalo has been in more AFC Championship Games during the Mahomes era than the Ravens have with Jackson. Allen has showed up in the playoffs and the defense has let him down. Everyone knows in America that the refs let the Bills down against the Chiefs during the AFC Championship Game. This could be finally the year where Buffalo gets over the hump and finally win it all for the first time in franchise history.
