Colorado sets sights on new campaign
It’s August, and the 2022 college football season is finally nearing. For Colorado Buffaloes fans, the 2016 dream season seems like a distant memory. The team that clinched the south division and ended the regular season 10-2 is all but faded in the past. Colorado finished the 2021 campaign with a record of 4-8. Many believe they won’t be much better at all this season. But the Buffaloes aim to shock the country.
With a current projection of finishing dead last in the PAC, the Buffs still believe they have what it takes to prove doubters wrong. “I believe you’re going to see a quality team this year, a team that’s going to be very competitive, a team that’s going to win more games than they won a year ago,” head coach Karl Dorrell expressed at the recent Pac-12 Media Days. To most, winning 5 games does not seem like much of a milestone. With a schedule as brutal as the Buffs have, however, 5 wins would be considered impressive to some. In fact, according to ESPN’s FPI, Colorado is only projected to win one game all season: a matchup against Cal in mid-October.
TCU heads to Boulder
A Friday night matchup with TCU looms on the horizon as the season inches closer. The two teams have never met, and the Horned Frogs are currently an 8.5-point favorite. TCU has been a pretty “middle of the pack” team in the Big 12 the past few seasons. That said, this could really serve as a decent measuring stick to how the Buffs would fare if they were to end up switching conferences amid all the rumors. A win in this game could have dramatic effects on the rest of the season, much like the Texas A&M game, a year ago.
The fans won’t stop hoping for success. Karl Dorrell believes his team has what it takes to contend. Now all they have to do is go out and prove it. Can the Buffaloes’ aim to shock the country produce the results that so many desire? Only time will tell.
