The Bucs were built for Brady

Good or bad, the Bucs have become the house that Brady built. It worked. Gronk came out of retirement, some choice players were signed. Tom Brady took the Buccaneers to their second Super Bowl after 18 years. An exceptional quarterback, proven by his NFL record, as compiled by Logan Reardon. Tom Brady can lead an offence as long as he has someone to throw the ball too. He can live or die by the short pass. But… keeping Brady has both it pro’s and cons.

Earlier in 2022 rumors leaked Brady was retiring. Then he wasn’t. Opting to play another year with Tampa Bay, making him one of the oldest QB’s on the field.

    Building the Bucs.

Brady makes a difference, but not alone. There are three other quarterbacks on the Buc’s. Trask, Gabbert and Griffin. The current second string quarterback is Blaine Gabbert, an NFL 12-year veteran. Kyle Trask, a second round 2020 draft pick, could take the number two spot in the new season. Ryan Griffin is the QB 4. Dustin Lewis reported there are beliefs that Garoppolo should join the Bucs recreating a partnership with Tom Brady. But getting him from the 49ers would create a monetary issue for the Bucs. They would have to give up a quarterback and more. Barring Garoppolo, Trask would most likely be the best bet, since he has a high ceiling. Lots of room to grow. Gabbert and Griffin are seasoned players, they have comparable experience with Brady.

The offensive line, wide receivers and running backs. Brady will spread the wealth and throw to any open player. Although he seems to prefer short passes, he is a threat. Brady will throw deep and accurate. Mike Evans, wide receiver, appears to be his go-to guy, but he has Chris Godwin and Russell Gage as outlet receivers just in case. Gronk was a tight end that Brady loved to throw to. The Buc’s just picked up two new tight ends, Cade Otton  and Ko Kieft. Two new weapons? Rookies to mold with a new QB?

Bruce Arians moved to the front office, leaving the head coach position to Todd Bowles. In his tenure as the Buccaneers coach, he added two female coordinators to the team. Lori Locust, an assistant defensive line coach and Maral Javadifar, assistant strength and conditioning coach. Byron Leftwich is the offensive coordinator. He and Brady work in tandem. Leftwich makes the calls but Brady can effectively read the defensive line, making him an offensive coordinator on the field. Very few QB’s can do that.

    Building for the future.

This is Tom Brady’s third year. A new coach and fresh, younger players will create an interesting season. Are the Buc’s rebuilding for the future and will it make a difference if Brady returns next season? With his experience, there’s a good chance Brady can take the Bucs to the playoffs and beyond, again. After that? With so many variables, the better question is, Can Tom Brady do two more years?
