The Ohio State Buckeyes will have its fourth different starting quarterback in four seasons when the 2025 college football season kickoffs. Ohio State will face the Texas Longhorns at home in Week 1 of the college football season.

The Buckeyes are the defending national champions, and the quarterback battle has been one of the biggest storylines entering training camp. Julian Sayin and Lincoln Kienholz have been battling for the starting quarterback job. Freshman Tavien St. Clair will get his time at the quarterback position for Ohio State, but it will be interesting to see who the Week 1 starter will be for the Buckeyes as well.
Ohio State Buckeyes Quarterback Julian Sayin Has the Lead Over Lincoln Kienholz In Quarterback Battle (Report)

Ryan Stano, a writer for scarletandgame.com wrote an update about the Buckeyes quarterback battle for the 2025 season. He said,
“Ohio State football player Julian Sayin takes the lead in the battle for the starting QB job
The Buckeyes have loved Sayin’s talent since the moment he transferred to Ohio State. As a former five-star recruit, he has all of the tools needed to be successful, including a rocket for an arm. The only issue is his size, which is not prototypical for a quarterback.
Sayin’s job is a lot easier when he can throw the ball to guys like Jeremiah Smith. Smith is the best player in college football, so it doesn’t really matter which quarterback is throwing him the ball. He’s going to make it so that he’s a playmaker no matter what.
It’s still very early in Fall camp, but Sayin was always expected to win this job. With how well he reportedly looked on Saturday, he’s got a chance to open up a lead that he won’t relinquish to Kienholz for the rest of the preseason.”
Sayin received limited game action during the 2024 season. Will Howard was the starting quarterback for Ohio State under head coach Ryan Day. During the 2024 season, Sayin completed 41.7% of his passes for 84 yards and one touchdown.
Well, he is going to be throwing passes to wide receiver Jeremiah Smith in 2025 and also Carnell Tate and that should help him out as well. This could be one of those years where even if Sayin does win the starting job out of training camp, it could potentially be a week-to-week thing with the starting quarterback for Ohio State.
If Kienholz does not win the job, it may not mean that he doesn’t see the field during the 2025 college football season. St. Clair maybe out of the picture now for the Buckeyes, but there may be some fans who will not forget his name. He was a five-star recruit from the class of 2025. Also, with Sayin projected to win the starting job, he needs to have a very good outing in Week 1 against Texas or there will be some critics about this position.
