The Browns are still the Browns

The Browns are still the Browns. What does this mean you ask? It means that they are bad, still.

Mediocrity has been the new excellence for the Cleveland Browns in recent years.  Every year, there is hype around the Cleveland Browns. Yet every single year, they don’t live up to this hype. For the last several seasons at least, the Brownies’ have been expected to compete for a playoff spot. Last season, they were coming off their first playoff victory in decades against the Pittsburgh Steelers. They followed that up with a 8-9 record which was only good enough for 3rd place in the AFC North.

As Kevin Stefanski enters his third season as the Cleveland Browns head coach, there is a buzz around them that is exceedingly large. In the offseason, they signed the infamous quarterback Deshaun Watson. Deshaun Watson is a good quarterback, some would even say great (I don’t). Anyway, Watson has been accused of sexual misconduct by over two dozen women massage therapists. Yet, he sat out the entirety of last season, and will miss at least the first 6 games of this season after the NFL suspended him. So, Watson will have 11 games to play when he returns from suspension. It is the general consensus that the Browns could have a  1-5 record or worse when he finally does return.

    The Bottom Line

A mix of overhype, and the Deshaun Watson suspension, and a prevalent lack of talent offensively will be the crux for the Cleveland Browns this year. Perhaps Deshaun Watson will even play well this season, but the Browns will not do well. The one certainty of which I am absolutely sure of however, is that the Browns will not have a winning record this season.  They will finish with 8-9 or 7-10 record. I could even see them having a tie at some point this season. The Cleveland Browns won’t be anywhere near the worst team in the NFL of course, that is not what I am stating. Ladies and gentleman, students and scholars, people of any and all variety…the Browns are STILL the Browns.
