The Absolute Best Week 9 Packers Preview: Green Bay Packers (3-5) vs Detroit Lions (1-6)

Week 9 Packers Preview: Vegas Line Packers -3.5 (49.5 O/U)

    • Every home Lions game has hit the over in 2022.
    • The Packers have an implied point total of 28 points; they haven’t scored more than 27 points in 2022.
    • With the above information in mind, the lowest points scored by an opponent against the Lions in 2022 is 24.

    Week 9 Packers Preview: Rundown

    Packers lead series 105-73-7

The Green Bay Packers go against the Detroit Lions for their annual game at Ford Field. This is a rivalry that dates back to 1930. The Packers have been dominating the Lions over the last 30 years with a 45-17 record. Aaron Rodgers has been exceptional against the Lions in his career. He has thrown for 6,055 yards, 52 touchdowns (6.9% touchdown rate), with only eight interceptions on a 108.8 rating and a 65.7% completion rate. The Packers have been 18-6 over that span.

Green Bay hopes to end their four game losing streak against Detroit on Sunday. The Lions are currently having their own struggles during their five game losing streak. Their defense ranks at or near the bottom in points allowed, yards allowed, third down percentage, turnovers forced, sacks, and first downs allowed. They just traded away TJ Hockenson and D’Andre Swift “isn’t back.”

This seems like a perfect get right game for the Green Bay Packers. As their loss to the Commanders indicates, nothing is guaranteed in this league, however, so anything can go sideways for the Packers in this one. With that in mind, if the Packers could choose one team to play to snap their losing streak, I am sure they would choose the Lions.

Week 9 Packers Preview: What to Watch For

    Keeping Up the Good Work

It’s always good for the soul to look at the bright side of things. Yes, the Packers lost. They played a good game despite what the scoreboard says. The score would have been closer if not for a questionable pass interference call. The Packers offense put up their highest yardage total (398 yards) since their last win in week four. They won the possession battle. Their defense held Josh “Freak of Nature” Allen to 215 passing yards. Allen was in constant pressure all game. A small number of quarterbacks could escape the pressure Allen was facing against the Packers. The Packers need to take what worked against the Bills and try to replicate it against the Lions.

    D’Andre Swift’s Workload

Swift’s workload on Sunday is murky. Dan Campbell stated earlier in the week that they gave Swift “one too many” carries. Swift has upgraded from not practicing to limited practices during the week. Today coach Campbell went on to say that Swift will play, but they will “see where he’s at”. He is currently listed as questionable on the injury report.

Fellow running back Jamal Williams has scored eight touchdowns so far in 2022, but he lacks the explosive game-changing speed that Swift has. Based on how the coach speaks and how Williams has played, it seems that Swift touches will be extremely limited this game. Unfortunately for the Packers, Swift is a player that only needs a few touches to blow up the game.

My Week 9 Packers Preview: Predictions

    Packers 32 – Lions 20

    •  This will be the week that Rodgers finally breaks the 300 yard mark. He has yet to do it all year. His highest yardage total on the season is 255.
    • Williams will greet his former team by catching a TD.
    • Amon-Ra, being the only healthy difference maker on offense, will catch only half of his targets.
