Brandon Graham’s Possible Return Sparks Buzz in Philly

ESPN’s Adam Schefter said that former Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham is “strongly considering coming out of retirement” to rejoin the Eagles after Za’Darius Smith’s abrupt in-season retirement. Per Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, Graham could sign as early as Monday after speaking with Howie Roseman earlier this season.
Smith’s decision came as a surprise. The formidable pass rusher, who signed with the Eagles in March, retired because of extreme back issues, finishing his season without a start. His exit, accompanied by injuries to Nolan Smith and Ogbo Okoronkwo, left the Eagles’ pass rush depleted, currently standing at 25th in the NFL with only nine sacks.
The 37-year-old Graham retired in May after 15 seasons with the Eagles. He has many accolades, such as being a 2020 Pro Bowler. Plus, he has 76.5 career sacks, 489 tackles, and 21 forced fumbles, ranking fourth in NFL history in sacks.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport confirmed “discussions” are ongoing, with Graham expected to be fully healthy after recovering from a torn triceps suffered in 2024. The discussion has stirred excitement and multiple fans’ reactions:
A fan said: “Might be a hot take but I don’t know if this really moves the needle right now. Plus he already went out as a champion.”
Other said, “eternal life granted to overpriced tickets and barbecue fumes.”
Another fan praised Graham, “a return for Graham would be monumental. Few players combine skill, longevity, and leadership like him, and the Eagles could benefit instantly from all three.”
Other chimes,”Of course he would play against the Giants 😭😂”
One fan stated, “Worst part is, he’s probably better than what we currently have…”
Whether nostalgia or need drives his comeback, the Eagles may soon see their longest-tenured player back on the gridiron.
