The Texas Tech Football took on TCU this past weekend in a heart-stopping contest that saw Texas Tech lose in the final moments 35-34.
The loss dropped Tech to 5-3 on the year and 3-2 in conference play.
However, it was one player from the losing side who garnered a ton of attention on social media for something he decided to do mid game.
“Disgusting, No Place In College Football For That” Texas Tech Player Thrashed After On Field Decision
According to Nathan Giese of the Lubbock Avalance-Journal:
During Saturday’s game against TCU, Burkhardt ran for a touchdown on a fake field goal. In celebration of his score, Burkhardt lifted his jersey and pulled down his undershirt, which featured a handwritten message of “Trump 24! MAGA.”
“We have addressed it. We will continue to address it. We’re addressing internally. You know, it’s always one of things as far as whenever you’re dealing with young adults, the really young adults, I guess, the choices that we make and when we make them and when you share it.
“I always think the greatest thing about football, basketball, sports like that, it’s a team sport. You always want to make sure that you’re putting your team in the best situation. And there’s places that you express your opinion and, you know, I don’t think necessarily that’s a time or the place.
“As far as with him, we’re going to deal with it. Dealt with it on Saturday and continue to talk through stuff and find the best solution and keep it in house.”

Politics get a lot of attention on social media, of course:
“Then he missed a FG and his team lost by one. Maybe should have focused on the game,” said one comment.
“Then he missed a FG and his team lost by one. Maybe should have focused on the game,” said one comment.
“And then misses a fg. His teammate in the 4th fumble with under two minutes left. And they lose the game. SAD,” a third added.
“Imagine celebrating the most exciting moment of your career by making it about a politician,” a fourth continued.
With the presidential election approaching, do not be surprised if more athletes become even more vocal about politics.
