The number one team in the country, the Texas Longhorns, has had a wonderful start to their season. Three weeks ago, they went to Ann Arbor and beat up the defending champions, Michigan, and now they are looking to get their first SEC win of the season against Mississippi State.
Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers shocked many this offseason when he decided to return to school and not enter the NFL Draft; this year, he got off to a great start, but an injury in their Week Three game against UTSA left him sidelined for the second half and for their entire game against Louisiana Monroe last week.
Texas Makes A Decision On Quinn Ewers

Backup quarterback Arch Manning came in for Ewers and put up great performances in back-to-back weeks. Many have called for Manning to be the starter moving forward when Ewers comes back, but that most likely won’t happen.
Ewers is the only person who can take Texas to the title this season, and they need his leadership and experience to beat teams like Georgia and the other top teams they will have to face along the way.
For Texas to be ready to compete for the title this season, Ewers has to be 100% healthy, and he most likely won’t be suiting up against Mississippi State this week.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, “Quarterback Quinn Ewers is not expected to play against Mississippi State today, per ESPN sources. A final decision will be made later in the day, as Ewers is nearly 70-percent and the coaching staff is prioritizing full health for Oklahoma.”

Letting Ewers sit for two more weeks before they face Oklahoma is a great decision. Mississippi State is not a great football team, and two weeks ago, Toledo walked in and beat them; the Longhorns should be able to get the win without Ewers. Next week is a bye, so that gives Ewers another two weeks to get ready.
There is no reason to play Ewers this week, and it will be awesome to see Manning get another chance at playing quarterback.
