Texas has proven to be one of the best teams in college football this season. Last week, they walked right into the Big House and beat Michigan 31-12.
The Longhorns planted their flag for all of college football to see, and on Saturday, they had a slightly easier opponent in UTSA.
Texas won the game 56-7, but the biggest story of the contest was what happened in the Longhorns’ quarterback room.
Heisman front-runner Quinn Ewers left the game with a strained abdomen, but his backup, Arch Manning, came in and put on a show, throwing for 223 yards and four scores and rushing for 53 yards and a touchdown.
Manning is the nephew of star NFL quarterbacks Peyton and Eli and was the number one quarterback in the 2023 class among many outlets.
Many thought Manning would transfer this offseason when Ewers announced he would return to Texas and not enter the NFL Draft, but the 19-year-old quarterback wasn’t going anywhere and would wait his turn.
Texas Needs Quinn Ewers To Win It All
Manning is a great talent, but Texas needs Ewers to be healthy to win the national championship. Ewers is one of the best quarterbacks in college football, and there was a reason why he went into Michigan and picked apart one of the best defenses in the county last week.
Ewers started three years in college and has experience leading the Longhorns to the title. Texas was a win away from playing in the national championship last season, and Ewers only got better this offseason.
Manning is awesome, but he has hardly played any college football in his career and hasn’t done it against good teams.
Texas still has to play Georgia, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M and will need Ewers’s leadership and veteran experience to win those games.
Manning will start in Austin next season, but the best thing for the team is for Ewers to get healthy and remain under center for the rest of the season.
