The Texas Longhorns and star quarterback Quinn Ewers made quick work of the Florida Gators on Saturday. Over the course of the season, Texas has made their presence known in the SEC only losing to the Georgia Bulldogs. Ewers play has often been overshadowed by other quarterbacks around the SEC such as Georgia’s Carson Beck. Reports came out earlier this week how Beck was the favorite to be the first overall pick in this coming NFL Draft. However, Beck has continued to put up poor performances including this Saturday when Georgia lost to Ole Miss. Many Georgia fans took to social media stating how Beck wasn’t even an NFL caliber quarterback let alone the first overall pick.
Ewers And Texas Longhorns Dominate Florida

Longhorns QB Ewers put in one of his best performances of the year this weekend. The Longhorns would jump out to a stunning 35-0 lead before halftime, only to pile on more in the second half. Ewers would complete 19/27 pass attempts while throwing for 333 yards and five touchdown passes. Running backs Jerrick Gibson and Jaydon Blue would each add rushing touchdowns to the Longhorns total. Ewers and the Longhorns would coast to a dominant 49-17 win over the Florida Gators.
Due to the 35-0 lead heading into halftime, many Texas fans expected to see back-up Arch Manning play a majority of the second half. This wasn’t the case, HC Steve Sarkisian decided to let Ewers lead another scoring drive which would end in a 34-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Bond. Manning would finally make his way to the field in the second half but only complete three of his six pass attempts for 19 yards.
Quinn Ewers Could Be Top Selection Come Draft Time

This season there hasn’t been a clear number one quarterback going into the draft process. Like past years with the likes of Caleb Williams or Jayden Daniels. Every quarterback has struggled to separate themselves from the rest of the pack. Whether it be Carson Beck, Jalen Milroe, Cam Ward, or Shedeur Sanders.
However, Quinn Ewers has remained the most consistent of any quarterback. Despite one game against Georgia, Ewers has continued to show the leadership and grit that football fans know and love. Ewers has a 69.3% completion rating this season, throwing for 1,722 yards and 19 touchdowns. All NFL caliber numbers. Ewers has the Longhorns primed for the College Football Playoffs, and barring a disastrous performance should put himself firmly in place to hear his name called with the first overall pick come NFL Draft time.
Ewers More Than Just a Good Passer

There is more to playing the quarterback position that just being good at throwing the football. Character and leadership are what separates a good quarterback from a great one. Ewers is beloved by Texas Longhorn fans and is admired by many of the players in that locker room. The way Ewers has handed the situation with Manning has been particularly impressive. Ewers has handled it with grace and maturity, showing how to be a leader of the team and mentor to the young quarterback-in-waiting.
If an NFL team is wanting a mature quarterback to lead their franchise, it would be wise to take a serious look at Quinn Ewers. When many of the nation’s top quarterbacks have struggled throughout this season, he has remained consistent and battled back from injury to lead this team to the playoffs. The Longhorns aren’t just in position for the playoffs, they are likely going to be playing in the SEC Championship game the first year joining the elite conference.
