The Texas Longhorns are looking to sustain success for the long term in college football. Texas is one of the best teams already in the country this season. They are ranked second in the nation and will look to compete for national championships under head coach Steve Sarkisian for years to come.
The Texas Longhorns have been heavily going after five-star recruits. Safety Zelus Hicks is a five-star recruit in the class of 2026.
Texas Longhorns Land Five-Star Safety Zelus Hicks In the Class of 2026
On Thursday, safety Zelus Hicks has committed to the Texas Longhorns. He is a five-star recruit from Carrollton, Georgia. Some of the other schools that were looking at were the Auburn Tigers, the Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Georgia Bulldogs.
Landing him out of the state of Georgia is a huge win for the program because the Bulldogs will be the Longhorns’ top competitor in the SEC Conference for a very long time. Hicks told on3:
“Things moved quickly with Texas. They came out in the spring and offered, they came heavy after me, and after that visit, I felt great about Texas. I liked the school, I meshed with coach Blake Gideon, they just kept applying pressure like no other school and I made my decision. They tell me I am No. 1 on their board and they are No. 1 on my board, so it is a perfect match. Me and my dad have been talking about it and I made my decision earlier this week.”
Hicks and the Longhorns felt like a perfect match from day one. Texas is loading up on talented football players.
Fans React To This Move

A lot of people are wondering if Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian can build a football program like his former Alabama Crimson Tide boss, Nick Saban did. Sarkisian landing another five-star recruit in Zelus Hicks is the latest example of him landing elite talent at the high school level. Will see what other recruiting magic he can pull off for the class of 2026 and other classes as well.
