The 5th-ranked, 11-2 Texas Longhorns host the 12th-ranked, 10-3 Clemson Tigers at Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas, at 3:00 P.M. CT for the first round of the College Football Playoff. The Longhorns hope to snap their one-game losing streak and advance to the next round of the playoff. The winner of this game will travel to Atlanta, Georgia, to face off against the 4th-ranked 11-2 Arizona State Sun Devils for the Peach Bowl at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Wednesday, January 1, at noon.
The Texas Longhorns star receiver aggravated his ankle injury two weeks ago
Longhorns’ star wide receiver Isaiah Bond suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 7 against the Oklahoma Sooners. He played through the injury in Week 8 against the Georgia Bulldogs but missed Week 9 against the Vanderbilt Commodores. Bond toughened it up and played Weeks 11-15. Unfortunately, the star receiver aggravated his high ankle sprain late in the fourth quarter against the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship game.
The Longhorns revealed a discouraging injury update
Isaiah Bond did not practice on Monday, and the Longhorns listed him as questionable in their final injury report. According to Pete Thamel of ESPN, it is unlikely that Bond will play against the Clemson Tigers on Saturday afternoon. As Thamel points out, the star receiver will attempt to warm up before the Longhorns make an official decision regarding his game status. Either way, he is not expected to have a significant impact on the game if he does, in fact, play.
“One big potential loss today for Texas is wide receiver Isaiah Bond,” Thamel said on ESPN College GameDay. “He’s obviously their starting slot, a projected first-round pick. He’s unlikely to play and he certainly isn’t going to contribute significantly.
“I’ve been told he may try and warm up today for that Clemson game, but do not expect him to have an impact on the game plan. Look for Ryan Wingo, the five-star freshman, to get his time to shine today.”
