The Texas Longhorns are 2-0 after the first two weeks of the college football season. They are the second-ranked team in the country and the number one team in the country at the moment are the Georgia Bulldogs.
Quarterback Quinn Ewers could very well be one of the top quarterbacks taken in the 2025 NFL Draft. Along with Ewers, Carson Beck of Georgia and Cam Ward of Miami could very well be high draft picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. Also, they could be Heisman Trophy candidates along with Jaxson Dart of Ole Miss and Jalen Milroe of Alabama.
Joel Klatt Thinks That the Texas Longhorns Have a Heisman Trophy Favorite Right Now With Quarterback Quinn Ewers
Joel Klatt was one of the people on the call on FOX Sports with Gus Johnson and Jenny Taft this past Saturday when Texas faced Michigan on the road. On the most recent episode of “The Joel Klatt Show,” Klatt talked about how well Ewers performed against the Wolverines. In the matchup, he threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns in the game. Joel Klatt said about his performance:
“There was a couple of times in particular in that first quarter and more specifically on third down that he was able to get himself loose, and that’s what was creating the bigger plays, the explosive plays for Texas down the field. He did a great job of that. Quinn Ewers is right now my favorite for the Heisman trophy based on what I saw on Saturday.”
It will be interesting to see how Ewers will continue to perform. He lost a bunch of wide receivers to the NFL. This year, the former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback is just fine with his receiving core. The last time a Texas Longhorns player won the Heisman Trophy was in 1998 with running back Ricky Williams. He rushed for 2,124 yards and 27 touchdowns that season.
Georgia Bulldogs vs Texas Longhorns Game Could Decide the Heisman Trophy Race
The Georgia Bulldogs and the Longhorns will face each other on Saturday, October 19. This could be the game where the Heisman Trophy gets decided between Carson Beck and Ewers. They both will be high picks in the 2025 NFL Draft.
This could be the game where one quarterback separates himself from the other in Heisman Trophy talks. It could be the best quarterback matchup on paper during the 2024 college football regular season.
