The Texas Longhorns will be hosting the Georgia Bulldogs in a primetime matchup this Saturday night with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC. Texas is the top-ranked team in the nation and Georgia is the fifth-ranked team in the country.
The Longhorns are 6-0 on the year and the Bulldogs are 5-1 on the season. This could potentially be a preview of the SEC Championship Game or a playoff preview.
Georgia Bulldogs Head Coach Kirby Smart Makes Staggering Statement Ahead of the Matchup Against the Texas Longhorns
On Monday, Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart met with the media to discuss the matchup with the Longhorns this upcoming weekend. Smart told Zach Dimmitt of Sports Illustrated about how good the Texas Longhorns have been this season:
“I mean, the most complete team that we’ve seen or faced this year, and probably in multiple years. When you look at what they’re doing, defensively, offensively and special teams, they are clearly one of the best teams in the country.”
This is a testament to the kind of football program that head coach Steve Sarkisian has built for the Longhorns. They played on the road this season against the Michigan Wolverines and the Oklahoma Sooners and dominated those games.
Texas has looked dominant through its first six games of the college football season. It could be more difficult for them against the Georgia Bulldogs, but Kirby Smart knows it is all hands on deck against them.
Smart Discusses His Relationship With Sarkisian
In the past, Kirby Smart and Steve Sarkisian were both assistant coaches under Nick Saban with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Smart also discussed with the media about the relationship he has with Sarkisian off the field. Kirby Smart said:
“Lot of respect for Sark. You know, I’ve gotten to know Sark really well over the last couple of years. We take a trip every year together, and really enjoy getting to know him and have a lot of respect for the job he does.”
The Texas Longhorns and the Georgia Bulldogs are heading toward long-term success in the SEC Conference. Georgia has won two national titles in the last three seasons, but Texas is looking to get back to its glory days of winning it all.
