The Texas Longhorns were the number one ranked team in the country entering this weekend against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Texas won the game over Mississippi State 35-13, thanks to Arch Manning’s big performance.
Head coach Steve Sarkisian understands that there will be rough waters ahead in SEC Conference play. Texas had a chance to stay number one in the AP Poll for the second consecutive week.
The Alabama Crimson Tide Leapfrog the Texas Longhorns As #1 In the AP Poll
When the AP Poll came out, the Alabama Crimson Tide leapfrogged the Texas Longhorns in the AP Poll. Alabama is the number one team in the country after they defeated the Georgia Bulldogs, 41-34 on Saturday night.
The Longhorns drop to the number two team in the country. Georgia dropped to number five in the nation. The Bulldogs and Texas won’t play each other until October 19. Texas and Alabama will not face each other unless they play in the SEC Championship or the college football playoff this season.
Texas Fans React
The Longhorns fans felt kind of numb about dropping down from one to two in the AP Top 25 poll. This is what Texas fans had to say about it:
Ok cool, Hook Em.

This may not be the last time this season that the Texas Longhorns are up and down the college football AP Poll rankings. Texas will have a bye this week before they have to face the Oklahoma Sooners and the Georgia Bulldogs in back-to-back weeks. We will see if they could also get back quarterback Quinn Ewers from injury after the bye or they will go back to quarterback Arch Manning.
