Tensions were high during the first half of Saturday’s contest between No. 3 Texas A&M and South Carolina.
Amid news of head coach Mike Elko’s contract extension, the Aggies got off to a slow start in the first half. Quarterback Marcel Reed struggled with turnovers, and the Gamecocks took advantage of the struggling home team.
By halftime, the Gamecocks took a 30-3 lead at Kyle Field in College Station.
There was a heated moment following an 80-yard touchdown reception by South Carolina wide receiver Nyck Harbor in the second quarter. Harbor ran into the tunnel with a few of his teammates after scoring the touchdown that put SC up 26-3 with 53 seconds remaining in the second quarter.
As Rusty Surette with KBTX pointed out, a Texas DPS State Trooper walked into the tunnel and bumped into Harbor before appearing to yell something at the junior receiver.
To clear up a lot of misinformation on X (imagine that) this is a Texas DPS State Trooper. This is NOT a Texas A&M police officer.

College football fans shocked by the troopers behavior

Some fans online inaccurately thought the bump came from a Texas A&M police officer. However, the incident appeared to reflect poorly on the Texas DPS.
Fans on social media were disturbed by the video.
“If he does this on national TV, imagine what he does on traffic stops when no one is watching,” posted a fan.
“When your cops are more physical than your football team, you’re not having a good day,” joked a poster.
“Cop see’s three football players walking through the tunnel shoulder to shoulder. Decides to try and squeeze through. Doesn’t fit and shoulder checks a player in the process. Blames the player. SMH lol,” posted another.
“Sounds like the Texas A&M police chief should have a nice long chat with a job on the line with this individual. That’s unacceptable behavior from law enforcement. Everybody in the stadium is in there for 1 reason to see both teams compete against each other,” suggested a fan.
“The more I watch I can’t understand why a Texas ranger would intentionally have both arms out as he initiated contact. Has to be his lowest day!” posted another.
“Get that cop out of there. He shoulder checked both players and they’re in the zone to enter the field. They’re not thinking about people walking on coming in that moment,” believes a fan.
The tide turned for Texas A&M in the second half. The Aggies mounted a strong comeback to take a 31-30 lead in the fourth quarter.
