Texas A&M targets Tony Mitchell and Jaden Rashada committed to Alabama and Miami respectively Sunday.
Tony Mitchell is a 5-star cornerback out of Thompson High School in Alabaster, Alabama. The 6’2” rising senior has boasted impressive stats in his first three years playing high school ball, accumulating over 200 tackles, 3 forced fumbles, and 7 interceptions, 2 of which he took to the house for touchdowns.
Jaden Rashada is a 4-star quarterback from Pittsburg High School in California. Rashada started for the Pirates last season as a junior, throwing for 2220 yards on 256 attempts with 27 touchdowns and only 5 interceptions.
Alabama managed to keep Mitchell inside the state while Miami went cross-country to secure Rashada for their 2023 recruiting class. Both were high-level targets on Texas A&M’s recruiting board.
The Aggies are coming off signing the highest rated class in history according to the 24/7 Sports Composite with their 2022 signing class and were expected to roll into 2023 with momentum. While still early in the cycle, A&M has not had the start to this recruiting cycle many fans had hoped for. Currently, they are ranked 49th in the Composite rankings with five commits, four 4-stars and one 3-star, and a score of 104.84. Does this mean last cycle was a mere fluke?
Of course not.
Tony Mitchell and Jaden Rashada are tough losses, for sure, but so much talent still fills the A&M recruiting board. At quarterback, the Aggies are still very much in it for Dante Moore, the 5-star out of Detroit. A&M also already has two high-rated cornerbacks committed in Bravion Rodgers and Jayvon Thomas and are also predicted to get 4-star Malik Muhammad and are in the running for 5-star Javien Toviano.
A&M is set up to have one of the best defensive line classes again with Johnny Bowden already joining the class and the #1 defensive lineman and #5 overall recruit David Hicks is currently crystal balled to come to Aggieland. Even as I write this, Texas A&M landed 3-star linebacker Daymion Sanford out of Katy, Texas, who impressed recruiters at the Jimbo Fisher Football Camp earlier this month.

My point is that recruiting has its ups in down. Recruits are going to choose other teams sometimes. A&M is also going to sign some guys. Really good guys. As I said, it’s still early in the cycle. No one in June last year thought Texas A&M would bring home the top class. I’m not saying they’ll do it again. All I’m saying is to have some patience and to have some faith.
