Saturday was full of upsets in college football. Both No. 11 teams, Clemson and Iowa State suffered defeats in Week 10. No. 17 Kansas State lost to Houston on the road. Those losses dynamically changed the College Football Playoff rankings a few days before the selection committee is set to release its first rankings of the year on Tuesday.
Texas A&M walked into a trap
No. 10 Texas A&M walked into a trap they couldn’t escape at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday night. The Aggies, 3,5-point favorites on Saturday, entered Week 10 with a 7-1 overall record and 5-0 record in SEC play (the only undefeated SEC team in Week 10) set to play a 4-3 South Carolina team that almost upset Alabama and LSU earlier in the season.
The Gamecocks went up 14-0 by scoring on their first two offensive possessions. The second touchdown was aided via being stopped on downs at the Aggies’ 34-yard line. The Aggies and Gamecocks were tied at 20-20 at halftime, but South Carolina would dominate in the second half. The Gamecocks outscored the Aggies 24-0 in the second half to embarrass to win by a score of 44-20.
South Carolina dominated a Top 10 college football team
The Gamecocks outgained the Aggies 530-350 in total yards. They also won the turnover battle, with the Aggies giving the ball away twice. The Gamecocks lost one fumble.
The Aggies have three more games left on their schedule. They’ll play New Mexico State, Auburn, and No. 6 Texas. South Carolina will play Vanderbilt next week before playing No. 25 Missouri, Wofford, and No. 11 Clemson to finish their regular season.
