Houston Texans standout linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair has successfully undergone thumb surgery, according to NFL insider Aaron Wilson.

Al-Shaair, a team captain and one of the most physical players on the Texans defense, had previously stated at the end of the 2025 season that he would need to address the thumb injury during the offseason. The procedure went well, and a full recovery is expected in time for the start of the 2026 season.

Details on Azeez Al-Shaair’s Surgery and Recovery

  • The surgery targeted a thumb injury that Al-Shaair played through during the 2025 campaign.
  • Wilson reported the operation was successful, with no complications noted.
  • Full recovery is anticipated well before training camp and the regular season, allowing the hard-hitting linebacker to return at full strength.

The 28-year-old Al-Shaair has been a cornerstone of the Texans’ defense since signing with Houston in 2024. In 2025, he earned a Pro Bowl nod after delivering another tackle-heavy season marked by his signature physical style and leadership.

  • Known for his relentless run defense and ability to make plays all over the field.
  • Served as a vocal team captain and emotional leader for a young Texans squad that reached the playoffs.

The timing of the surgery allows Al-Shaair to rehab during the early part of the offseason program without missing significant team activities later in the spring and summer.

This positive medical update is welcome news for the Texans as they prepare for the 2026 season under head coach DeMeco Ryans. Stay tuned for further updates on Al-Shaair’s recovery progress and the Texans’ offseason roster moves.
