Tennessee Volunteers: Victory against Alabama Crimson Tide 2024
The South’s most-anticipated game of the season took place this past Saturday (October 19, 2024), and the result may have shocked you. The constantly clashing fans of the Tennessee Volunteers and Alabama Crimson Tide once again came together for a nail-biting game that kept everyone on the edge of their seats.
Game Outcome:
After last year’s unexpected win from the Tennessee Volunteers, fans were unsure of which team would come out on top during this game; especially since both teams have grown exceptionally over the past few seasons. However, the Tennessee Volunteers defeated their rivals the Alabama Crimson Tide for the second time in a row on their beloved Neyland Stadium field. The score came out to be 24-17, with the Volunteers’ kicker Max Gilbert earning the team their last three winning points.
Although the outcome was one to be celebrated, the first half of the game was slow to start. It seemed that neither team could get their offense going. However, when the second half of the game began, the two teams started to show off their talents. The Volunteers’ running back Dylan Sampson performed two touchdowns in the third quarter, allowing the team to gain their first lead of the game and enter into the 4th quarter with a score of 14-10.
However, Alabama did not go down without a fight. Shortly after Tennessee’s lead, the Crimson Tide performed a rushing touchdown in the beginning of the fourth quarter, putting themselves at the top once again. Six minutes was all the time left when Chris Brazell, the Volunteer’s wide receiver, gave the team their last touchdown of the game. This unknowingly would put them in the winning spot.
In true Alabama versus Tennessee fashion, after a successful Kick performed by Max Gilbert, the Volunteers disputed any attempts at a touchdown from Alabama, successfully running out the clock. With thirty seconds left, and no chance at overtime, the Tennessee Volunteers were once again crowned the victors over the Crimson Tide.
The Volunteers and their fans waved their orange and white checkered flags high in the air as they celebrated a successful and phenomenal win again this year.
Alabama Coach Kalen Deboer says: “Alabama can’t play team football right now.”
During Saturday’s post-game press conference, Alabama’s Coach Kalen Deboer discussed his teams’ weaknesses that cost them the game against Tennessee. His opening statement began with this quote:
“Obviously a tough loss, frustrating loss. We’ve had two now. Just can’t play team football, can’t bring it together. One side of the football has highlighted moments, and the other side stumbles. And some missed opportunities. You try to look inward after every game, and we’ve got to continue to do the same.”
Deboer also went on to say…
“You can’t win a football game when you have mistakes like we have out there and all the penalties.”
The Crimson Tide faced many penalties during Saturday’s game, one instance being when the team’s wide receiver Kendrick Law decided to shove the Volunteers’ defensive back Boo Carter after some instigating. This occurrence alone earned Alabama a 15 yard penalty, and they kept adding up from there.
Many fans are now losing hope in the team. Some have gone as far as to say that they believe the Crimson Tide are not “disciplined” or “taking their responsibilities seriously.” Others are backing up the team’s decisions and refusing to back down.
