The #14 Tennessee Volunteers will look to improve to 2-0 on the season against the #24 North Carolina State Wolfpack on Saturday night. Tennessee is becoming one of the top teams being talked about in the country because of redshirt quarterback Nico Iamaleava.
In the game against the Chattanooga Macs, he completed 78.6% of his passes for 314 yards passing and three touchdowns. Iamaleava was not much of a factor in the ground game with six yards rushing on four carries and zero touchdowns. He also averaged 1.5 yards per carry.
Urban Meyer Predicts That the Tennessee Volunteers Will Make the College Football Playoffs Because Of Nico Iamaleava
There are many questions about who will make the college football playoff this season from the SEC Conference. The Tennessee Volunteers were a good team last season, but they have a chance to be elite in 2024. Former Florida Gators head coach Urban Meyer went onto the Triple Option this week and talked about the Volunteers and their star quarterback play. Meyer said:
“He was a five-star in high school. I asked, ‘Is he a top 10 pick in the NFL Draft?’ to Brady and Matt and they said obviously, he’s got another year left. This guy is unbelievable. I know they had Joe Milton last year, but this guy is a monster. Because of him, I’m putting them to cover the spread and I think they’ll be a playoff team.”
The Tennessee Volunteers are favored by -7.5 points on the road this Saturday night against the North Carolina State Wolfpack. Nico Iamaleava is the star of this offense and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Tennessee make the college football playoff because of him.
Volunteers Schedule
The Tennessee Volunteers have a tough schedule. but it isn’t a murder’s row. The toughest games for the Volunteers after Saturday’s game will be at #15 Oklahoma Sooners on 9/21, vs #4 Alabama Crimson Tide on 10/19, and at #1 Georgia Bulldogs on 11/16. The odds are that if Tennessee would lose 2 games, they could get into the playoffs.
If they were to lose three games, it could get dicey for them. The only game that the Volunteers may not be better at the quarterback position is the Bulldogs game with Carson Beck. Nico Iamaleava is the best quarterback on the field in every other game, including against Alabama and Jalen Milroe. It is understandable why Urban Meyer thinks that the Tennessee Volunteers will make the college football playoffs this season.
