The Tennessee Volunteers dominated the Kent State Flashes over the weekend by a final score of 71-0. Tennessee had a 65-0 lead at the half. The Volunteers dominated the game from the opening kickoff. Tennessee even offered to have running time or shorter quarters in the second half, but Kent State declined that offer.
The Tennessee Volunteers will face the #15 Oklahoma Sooners on the road this weekend. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC and it is a big game for both teams and it will be the start of SEC play for both programs for the 2024 season.
The Tennessee Volunteers Are Ranked #6 In the Country For the First Time Since The End of the 2022 Season
On Sunday, the Top 25 polls were released for Week 4. The Tennessee Volunteers are ranked #6 in the country entering the Week 4 matchup on the road against the Oklahoma Sooners. This is the first time that Tennessee has been ranked this high since the end of the 2022 season when they were ranked #6 in the country.
If the Volunteers beat the Oklahoma Sooners this weekend, there is a chance that they could be ranked in the Top 5. It would feel like new heights for this football program with the talent they have on offense and defense. The Volunteers will be favored by (-7) points against the Oklahoma Sooners on the road. Tennessee could very well have a major offensive output against Oklahoma.
Players To Watch For
There has been a very good formula for the Volunteers this season under head coach Josh Heupel. They pass the football and they also run the football effectively. Nico Iamaleava only completed 10-of-16 passes for 173 yards and one touchdown. He has the talent to put the team on his back if needed.
Running back DeSean Bishop rushed for 120 yards on seven carries and two touchdowns, along with averaging 17.1 yards per carry. As for Dylan Sampson, he may be one of the best running backs in the SEC Conference. Sampson rushed for 101 yards on 13 carries and four touchdowns, along with averaging 7.8 yards per carry against Kent State.
The Tennessee Volunteers can score a touchdown on every drive. Tennessee’s offense could be one of the reasons why they could make the college football playoffs this season. However, they will need to take care of business on the road against Oklahoma before those talks can begin.
