Tennessee Volunteers: Nick Saban Makes Massive Announcement About Nico Iamaleava

Before the #7 Tennessee Volunteers defeated the North Carolina State Wolfpack on Saturday night 51-10 on the road, Nick Saban went onto the College GameDay panel to talk about the Volunteers. Nico Iamaleava is the talk of the town for the Volunteers. This game was one of the biggest games on the schedule this past weekend other than the Texas Longhorns and the Michigan Wolverines.

Fans and family celebrate Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava (8) after the win over NC State in the Duke’s Mayo Classic NCAA College football game on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024 in Charlotte, NC.

Against the Wolfpack, he completed 69.6% of his passes for 211 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Iamaleava will have to clean up some stuff, but the Volunteers’ offense is dangerous because of him. What is also about this offense is the running game with Dylan Sampson. His presence in the backfield is a perfect match for the redshirt quarterback.

Nick Saban, the former Alabama Crimson Tide head coach, has faced the Tennessee Volunteers over the years in SEC play. This time around, he is making bold football predictions about the SEC Conference. This is what he said on the GameDay Panel before the Volunteers defeated the Wolfpack:

“I think Tennessee, with the quarterback play that they’re getting right now, I think they’re gonna be hard to beat. I think they’re gonna be hard to beat by all the teams in the SEC because of the spread offense they have, and I actually think they’re better on defense than people are giving them credit for.”

He is a redshirt freshman. Nico Iamaleava is going to be a problem for the conference for the remainder of the 2024 season. They are a dark horse team to make the college football playoff.

Kent State Next Opponent

The next opponent for the Volunteers will be Kent State before they begin SEC play against the #15 Oklahoma Sooners the following week. Tennessee will have the better quarterback in most of the games they play in for the remainder of the 2024 season.

Nico Iamaleava could be one of the reasons why they will make the playoff this season in an expanded 12-team field. This team has the chance to do some damage in the playoffs also because of his special talents. Nick Saban and other analysts across college football could put him into the Heisman Trophy race if he were to lead this football team to a playoff spot this season. He is one of the better quarterbacks in the SEC conference along with Quinn Ewers of Texas, Jaxson Dart of Ole Miss, and Carson Beck of Georgia.

Nico Iamaleava is probably the fourth-best quarterback in the conference right now. D.J. Lagway of the Florida Gators is also a freshman and a very talented quarterback. In the end, it is all about Iamaleava and the Volunteers in what they want to accomplish this season under head coach Josh Heupel.
