With only one win to go with their three losses, the Tennessee Titans aren’t really doing that great at this point of the season. Along with the predicament, Will Levis also has to prove he’s fully capable of handling the starting quarterback role for the rest of the campaign.
Just recently, the Titans have decided to stick with Levis as their starting quarterback, despite some early struggles this season. Coach Brian Callahan confirmed the decision following his recent shoulder injury during a game against the Miami Dolphins.
Although Mason Rudolph stepped in and led the team to a victory, Callahan emphasized that Levis will remain the starter as the team seeks to develop his skills further.
Callahan acknowledged that playing quarterback in the NFL is challenging and that young players often make mistakes. He believes that Levis, with more game time, can improve and become a more effective leader on the field. While Callahan admitted that he needs to enhance his performance, he remains optimistic about the quarterback’s potential.
The key factor going forward will be the extent of Levis’s injury. Callahan expressed hope that the quarterback would be ready to play in the upcoming matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. If he is unable to start, Rudolph will once again take the reins.
Will Levis’ Starting Quarterback Status For Tennessee Titans Amid Injury Revealed
Even before getting his shoulder injured, Levis has been seen struggling in Tennessee this season. This prompted ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler to drop an update on his status as the Titans’ starting quarterback.
“Monday night was not ideal for Titans quarterback Will Levis, who threw a bad interception, hurt his shoulder and watched backup Mason Rudolph operate the offense cleanly. But Brian Callahan’s declaration that Levis will “100%” be the quarterback if healthy is not lip service to my understanding. Levis, as of now, is not in a quick-hook situation, as the Titans seem intent on seeing the Levis experience through.
Levis has struggled with mistakes early in the season, but the upside is high. Tennessee needs to see what it has before it pivots. So I don’t get the sense that this is a Bryce Young situation. And the bye week gives Levis’ shoulder injury time to heal,” Fowler wrote.
The Titans are focused on long-term growth, prioritizing Levis’s development over immediate results. The coaching staff’s confidence in him reflects their commitment to nurturing his talent, with the aim of building a competitive offense as the season progresses.
As the Titans navigate their schedule, fans will be watching closely to see how Levis responds to this opportunity and whether he can elevate his game in the coming weeks. If he doesn’t, expect him to be shopped around before the trade deadline expires.
