In the midst of the TCU Horned Frogs dropping the notable Iron Skillet rivalry game, coach Sonny Dykes was ejected.
Dykes was ejected during the TCU clash against the SMU Mustangs after receiving two separate unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. Whether Dykes was on the sideline or not did not matter to the Mustangs as they rolled the Horned Frogs, 66-42, in the rivalry game.
The coach was confused following his ejection as he claims he ‘does not understand’ where the second penalty came from. Dykes admitted to the media after the game that he in fact did deserve the first penalty, and understands why he received it. The coach did not go into detail as to why he felt he deserve to receive the penalty.

Upon receiving the second penalty, Dykes was forced to leave the game as two unsportsmanlike penalties result in an automatic ejection.
Dykes stated that he felt a second penalty was not warranted but also expressed that he could not go into details. The coach felt he would like to, but also felt it would ‘not be in my best interest’ to provide context for his second penalty.
The coach had plenty to say to the referee before exiting, but also provided plenty for Horned Frogs fans to talk about.

An absolutely embarrassing lack of composure from Sonny Dykes. That’s insane.

TCU will have to figure out a will have to find a way to both keep their cool and play great football moving forward.
TCU Horned Frogs Coach Sonny Dykes Ejected During Blowout Rivalry Loss
While the coach may have been warranted in his anger, losing composure and getting ejected was not a good look for Dykes.
Following the ejection, Dykes stated he apologized to his team and his fellow staff members for his mistake. Dykes described the incident as ‘unfortunate’ and took accountability for his actions after the game when addressing the media.
The TCU staff and Dykes will now have to shift the focus towards Kansas next week, a team who has had a rocky season thus far. The Jayhawks have lost to Illinois, UNLV, and West Virginia after kicking off the 2024 season as a ranked program. Following the three losses, Kansas is fighting to keep the season afloat and keep bowl dreams alive.
TCU needs to take advantage of a vulnerable team and beat the Jayhawks during the upcoming clash.
