Taylor Swift’s romance with Travis Kelce is a common household topic, especially after the couple announced their engagement a couple of months back. It seems like the couple’s relationship has even managed to affect search trends so much that Cambridge Dictionary has picked their word for this year based on Swift and Kelce’s romance.

Cambridge Dictionary has picked the word ‘parasocial’ as their word for 2025, referring to the one-sided relationship that many fans share with the celebrities they idolize. This also includes the massive interest that fans have been showing toward Swift and Kelce’s relationship ever since it became public.

“Millions of fans related to Taylor Swift’s confessional lyrics about dating, heartbreak and desire, leading to what psychologists describe as “parasocial” bonds with stars. When Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement, many fans felt a deep connection to the singer and American footballer, even though most had never met them. The spontaneity, imperfection and confessional nature of podcast hosts have been said to replace real friends and to catalyse parasocial relationships.” Cambridge said on their website.

“Obsessive interpretations of lyrics and intense online discussions about their meanings and what they mean for fans, as well as Swift herself,” Simone Schnall, Professor of Experimental Social Psychology at the University of Cambridge said.

Taylor Swift already has a massive army of fans around her, popularly known as ‘Swifties’. This army has only enlarged very much after her relationship with Travis Kelce and added many more fans after her engagement went public.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce will most likely give their fans a run for their money as they plan a massive celebration of their nuptials next year. Soon after the power couple announced their engagement through a joint Instagram post, fans started speculating as to how their wedding will look and where it will take place.

Given Swift’s desire for privacy, fans assumed that the singer-songwriter will most likely plan for a small wedding with very limited guests. However, insiders close to Swift have revealed that she wants a huge celebration, spanning many days and many events.

While intimate details of the pop singer’s nuptials are yet to come to light, Swift’s choice of bridesmaids are clear. Swift reportedly has asked her besties Selena Gomez and Gigi Hadid to stand with her at the altar.
