A new report states that much of the NFL news circulating with Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce is partly by design, with the league promoting Swift.
Swift and Kelce have been rumored to be in the beginning phase of a relationship. Swift has been to the Kansas City Chiefs’ previous two football games. And broadcasts have taken notice, often including shots of Swift sitting in the bleachers during the games.
Kelce said this week that he thinks the coverage is “overdoing it” on the coverage of their relationship. However, the positive propaganda seems to be beneficial to all parties monetarily.
NFL News: League asked broadcasts to push Taylor Swift’s movie
According to a report by Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, the NFL asked four networks that cover NFL games to show promotions for Swift’s new movie, “The Eras Tour,” which debuts in theaters later this month. The free advertisement aired last Sunday night at a time when a typical ad would cost around $1 million to run:
“In the NFL’s undying quest for Taylor Swift’s heart, it asked its networks — NBC, ESPN, Fox and CBS — to show promos for her upcoming movie for free, The Post has learned.
ESPN and NBC acquiesced to the request and showed promos for Swift’s movie during the content portion of their pregame shows this past Sunday and Monday.”
The NFL is enjoying the new eyeballs from Swift fans watching games this year. Swift has to love that she’s getting free publicity for her movie. Kelce might think the NFL is overdoing the love story, but he’s selling a lot of jerseys and gaining followers on social media and for his podcast.
There’s just too much money in it for everyone to let the hype down yet.
