Ed Sheeran found out about his bestie Taylor Swift’s engagement to Travis Kelce the same way you did: scrolling through Instagram. The phone-free popstar missed the memo entirely because, well, he doesn’t have one.

But when they finally reunited a week later, they made up for lost time in a major way.
What Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran really talked about for four hours
Sheeran revealed to Access Hollywood that he and Swift had a marathon catch-up session, saying, “Me and Taylor are mates and we’ll see each other. I saw her a week after that happened, then saw her…we had a four-hour catch-up.”
So what do two global superstars gab about for four straight hours? It wasn’t about music or business deals. “You talk in person,” Sheeran explained simply, adding, “I kind of feel like being in touch with everyone, sort of, you lose actual human connection.”
The marathon conversation comes after months of swirling rumors that their friendship had hit a rocky patch. Some insiders claimed Sheeran was “peeved” when Swift dropped “The Life of a Showgirl” just weeks after his “Play” album, with her release quickly dominating charts.
But Sheeran shut down the gossip fast. “I’m not self-conscious about my relationship with her. We’ve been friends for many years, we’re super close, and we see each other when we see each other. And when we see each other, we lock back in to where we left off,” he told Access Hollywood.
Swift felt terrible about the whole phone fiasco, later confessing on The Tonight Show: “This is one of my absolute favorite people on the planet. When the news came out, I was like, ‘We forgot to call Ed! Oh, no!’ He’s like family. I love him, but he doesn’t have a phone.”
The reason for Sheeran’s tech-free lifestyle? He wants to be “present” for his wife Cherry, 33, and their daughters Lyra, five, and Jupiter, three. “I’ve actually got rid of the iPad as well, I’m not on anything anymore,” he confessed.
Their friendship goes back over a decade, starting when Sheeran served as the opening act on Swift’s Red Tour in 2012. Since then, they’ve collaborated on hits like “Everything Has Changed” and “End Game.”
With Swift’s wedding to Kelce on the horizon, insiders say there’s zero chance Sheeran won’t be there to celebrate his longtime friend.
