A marquee matchup between two ACC foes this Saturday afternoon between the Tar Heels of North Carolina and the Miami Hurricanes. The game will be played in Coral Gables, home of the Hurricanes, but may not be much of an advantage. Miami is currently on a two-game losing streak since starting the season 2-0 and look to grab their first ACC win of the season. North Carolina on the other hand has started the season 4-1 with a few wins by luck, but still are W’s.

Before the season started, the question around Chapel Hill was, “Who was going to be the starting QB in 2022?”. Well, there is no issue regarding as the play-caller with QB Drake Maye under center. Maye has been as electric as any current Heisman nominee potential. The RS Freshman (YIKES) this year has thrown for 19 touchdowns and only one INT. In the four victories, Maye has completed 65% or better completing passes. The lone loss against Notre Dame, Maye only completed 53%, but threw for five touchdowns, so the kid can ball.

On the defensive side of the play, the Tar Heels played their best game last week against Virginia Tech. Only allowing ten points after giving up 45 points to Notre Dame and 61 to App. State is a start for progress. DC Gene Chizik has been known during his career being the defensive guy, so the start of this season was not too hot. Luckily, after a dominating performance versus VT, it can lead to this week’s matchup between the Hurricanes.

What a time to be alive when the Hurricanes started the season 2-0 and headed to College Station to beat the Aggies. Only problem is, the Hurricanes did NOT defeat the Aggies or their opponent the following week in Middle Tennessee! Yes, you have read that correctly. Miami during their two-game losing streak just look lost and not hitting on any cylinders.

Heisman candidate before the season started, QB Tyler Van Dyke, looked to bring Miami to heights fans have not seen in nearly two decades. Well, from the way Van Dyke has looked the past two games, the U will not be back this season. I can understand a road loss to an SEC opponent, but to Middle Tennessee I cannot forget. Van Dyke has barely completed 51% of his passes and was benched in the 45-31 loss to the Blue Raiders.

The Hurricanes look to shake off back-to-back performances and look to cook up something good against the Tar Heels.

UNC Tar Heels v. Miami Hurricanes Odds (BetMGM)

      • ATS: UNC (+4.5)/Miami (-4.5)
      • O/U: 66
      • ML: UNC (+150)/ Miami (-190)
      • FPI: Miami 67.2%
    • North Carolina: 2-2-1 ATS, 3-2 O/U, 4-1 SU
    • Miami: 1-3 ATS, 2-2 O/U, 2-2 SU

    Prediction: Tar Heels (+4.5) (-109)

Right now, I want to know what Vegas knows about the lines for this ACC Matchup. I find it odd that the Hurricanes are not +3-3.5 underdogs in this game at home. The duel between the two QB’s will be exciting for college football fans, but who will prevail?

    • North Carolina are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games against Miami-FL.
    • North Carolina are 5-2 SU in their last 7 games against Miami-FL.

I am leaning with the Tar Heels in this matchup against the Hurricanes because UNC overall has looked better. Miami may come out the gates with motivation as they gear up for a marquee ACC game, but the Tar Heels offense is too much not to cover.

Maybe the Hurricanes offense will wake up and score plenty of points on this Tar Heel’s defense. I see this game either Canes 42-41 or Tar Heels 45-31. Either or, the Tar Heels cover this matchup.
