The Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered today hoping to convince Pro Bowl wide receiver Chris Godwin to stay in Tampa Bay before the tampering window opens. Godwin was having a great start to the 2024 season, hauling in 50 receptions on 62 targets for 576 yards and five touchdowns in their first seven games. Unfortunately, he suffered a season-ending dislocated ankle on a hip drop tackle in Week 7 against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers chose not to franchise tag him for obvious reasons

Since Chris Godwin has been tagged twice, his franchise tag value would be the same as the quarterback tag, $40 million. Since the Buccaneers did not want to pay him a $40 million fully guaranteed salary in 2025, they opted against franchise tagging him. However, they did change the void date from February 17th to March 12th, giving them extra time to negotiate his contract before his $19 million dead cap hit is on the books in 2025.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers sign elite Pro Bowl receiver to 3-year deal

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Buccaneers and Chris Godwin have agreed to a multi-year contract extension. As Rapoport points out, the deal is for 3 years and is worth $66 million, $45 million guaranteed, and worth up to $72 million.
