Unlike in years past, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are facing a tougher NFC South, especially after losing to the Atlanta Falcons recently. This led to an NFL analysis that dropped a surprising win-loss record prediction for the team by the time the season ends next year.
In a gripping overtime showdown, the Buccaneers fell to the Atlanta Falcons 36-30, highlighting the growing pains of a young roster. The game appeared to swing in the Bucs’ favor when Lavonte David intercepted a pass late in the fourth quarter. However, a turnover by rookie running back Bucky Irving, combined with a critical holding penalty on rookie center Graham Barton, thwarted their final drive.
As the clock ticked down, the Bucs faced mounting pressure. The penalty pushed them out of field goal range, allowing the Falcons to tie the game with a 52-yard field goal from Younghoe Koo. In overtime, the Falcons wasted no time, with Kirk Cousins connecting with KhaDarel Hodge for a quick touchdown.
Head coach Todd Bowles addressed the team’s struggles, noting that the penalties and setbacks hindered their ability to secure a win. Despite the disappointment, the Buccaneers’ roster features promising young talent, including recent draft picks who have already earned starting roles. General manager Jason Licht praised the offseason moves that retained key players and brought in fresh faces, setting the stage for future success.
NFL Analysis Drops Surprising Win-Loss Projection for Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Buccaneers’ recent loss aligns with their projected win-loss record. This is detailed more in Brad Gagnon’s analysis for Bleacher Report.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 9-8
Has the NFC South suddenly become strong? I think we’re in store for a three-way fight for the division crown, but I don’t know if the Bucs have the talent to hang with Atlanta and New Orleans, and I think they could take too much of a beating with this upcoming run against Atlanta, New Orleans, Baltimore, Atlanta, Kansas City and San Francisco.
At this point of the season, the Falcons may be the least of their worries. If they manage to get some good wins in the coming weeks against the likes of the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers, they may end up getting a better record next year. Otherwise, Bleacher Report’s analysis on them may be proven right.
While the loss stings, it serves as a learning experience for Tampa Bay’s younger players. The team must focus on minimizing mistakes as they navigate the season. With continued development and adjustments, the Buccaneers can harness their potential and aim to surpass to the win-loss record Bleacher Report gave them.
