The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Baker Mayfield experiment turned out to be a success, as he’s given them a solid presence under center after Tom Brady’s decision to retire.
This coming season, the former No. 1 pick overall will have a shiny new weapon downfield to work with in the form of rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka, who was the Bucs’ pick in the first round (19th overall) in the 2024 NFL draft.
Egbuka still has plenty to learn in the professional setting, but he’s been getting Mayfield radiating with excitement after the signal caller led the Buccaneers’ attack that averaged 29.0 points and 246.7 passing yards per game in 2024, both No. 1 overall in the league.
“Right now, I think we could plug-and-play [Emeka Egbuka] at any receiver spot,” Mayfield shared, according to ESPN.
Egbuka’s presence gives Mayfield a promising playmaker in Tampa Bay’s offense that will still continue relying on future Pro Football Hall of Famer Mike Evans and veteran wideout Chris Godwin. Egbuka is likely going to be behind those two established wide receivers on the depth chart as the No.3 wide receiver, but that’s a nice start for the former Ohio State Buckeyes star.
