The head coach-general manager tandem of Todd Bowles and Jason Licht will continue following the news of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signing both men to contract extensions. The move was announced by the Bucs on Sunday, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
“Jason and Todd’s leadership has been critical to our organization’s success. The winning culture they have established has us well positioned for the future,” Buccaneers owner/co-chairman Joel Glazer said in a statement (h/t Schefter). “The continuity and stability they provide will play a large role in our ability to compete for additional championships.”
Bowles has been with the Buccaneers’ coaching staff since the 2019 season, when he was still the team’s defensive coordinator. He was promoted to the role of head coach after Bruce Arians left his post. Licht, on the other hand, has been Tampa Bay’s general manager since 2014.

Licht was at the helm of the Buccaneers’ front office when the team brought in Tom Brady and won the Super Bowl in the 2020 season, with Bowles as the architect of the stop unit.
Since winning the Super Bowl, the Buccaneers have remained competitive even after the departure of Brady. Tampa Bay has won the NFC South division in each of the last four seasons, thanks in large part to Licht and the front office’s decision to give Baker Mayfield a shot as Brady’s successor under center. Licht also oversaw the Buccaneers’ additions of the likes of Mike Evans, Antoine Winfield Jr., Chris Godwin, Vita Vea and Tristan Wirfs, to name some.
Tampa Bay’s extension for Bowles will go for three years, while Licht’s is unclear at the time of this writing.

“continuity is key in Bucs,” said a fan on X.
Another one said: “Super deserving. They kept the Bucs from becoming the 2015 Broncos after Brady. Both have done a hell of a job.”
From a commenter: “Licht extension is great but Todd though??? Yikes man”
“Good. They work good together and make thangs happen! 👍🏼,” a social media user posted.
Via a different commenter: “Wouldn’t the most successful 5 year runs in history include one of the 2 Super Bowl victories?”
Said another: “Licht I agree with. He has brought in some good talent and drafted well. Bowles I am not so sure on.”
Choosing to stick with Bowles and Licht means that the Buccaneers feel confident in the direction they’re heading with those two at the helm of important roles on the team. Still, there is pressure for Bowles and Licht to take the team to more success or deeper runs in the playoffs, as Tampa Bay hasn’t gone past the divisional round since its Super Bowl victory.
