The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are slated to take a step back in 2023 after the departure of Tom Brady. Don’t tell cornerback Carlton Davis that. In a recent interview with Tyler Dunne, Davis said that other teams are in for a “rude awakening” in 2023.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Carlton Davis On 2023 Season
Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask make up a questionable quarterback room but Davis is confident in the pieces they have. While many are thinking that the Bucs will be picking in the top five of the draft, Davis thinks this team could surprise people.
“We’re about to do it to ’em,” Buccaneers corner Carlton Davis told Tyler Dunne in a recent piece published on Dunne’s website, GoLongTD.com. “Anybody who feels we’ve lost Tom — and lost something — is going to be in for a rude awakening. A rude awakening. Tom was a great addition for us, but obviously it’s a team sport. Obviously, you need components to be successful. We still have those components. And I’m only getting better.
“And our f—ing division is worse than what it was before. So, we run through the division. Get to the playoffs. Run through the playoffs and it’s the Super Bowl.”
Davis still thinks that they are the favorites in the division and he might not be incorrect by the end of 2023.
Weak NFC South
The Panthers have some solid pieces but have a historically undersized rookie quarterback in Bryce Young. The Falcons are relying heavily on the run and are hoping Desmond Ridder makes a year-two jump. New Orleans is hoping for a bounce-back season from Derek Carr. There is a world where everything goes horribly wrong for those teams and the Bucs are in the race. While there are questions about the quarterback position, Mayfield has led a team to the playoffs before and could again with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.
Chris Godwin is confident in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers chances in 2023. It is a long shot but if everything goes their way, the team could surprise some people.
