The Vanderbilt Commodores have picked up their sixth win this season, but did not do so without a controversial epilogue.
After the Commodores defeated the Auburn Tigers in Jordan-Hare Stadium, the Vanderbilt players had plenty to say to the opposing Auburn athletes. One specific Vanderbilt Commodores lineman, Steven Hubbard, was caught on video taunting the Auburn Tigers players as they attempted to leave the field.
Hubbard stood in the middle of the field, celebrating the win with his fellow Commodores teammates, before taunting multiple Auburn players. Hubbard was heard yelling, “You came in there last year, and we beat that a–, we 3-0 against you now.” The Commodores are currently on a three-game winning streak over Auburn, dating back to 2016 when the Tigers were the ninth-ranked team in the massive upset.

The person doing the taunting was an interesting choice, as Hubbard is in his first season with the Vanderbilt Commodores. The lineman previously played for UTEP and Kilgore College, with a similar incident occurring at UTEP. Hubbard got into a shoving match with a linebacker from Louisiana Tech, which eventually turned into the linebacker stomping the helmet of Hubbard after shoving him to the ground.
Fortunately for Hubbard this time around the opposing Auburn Tigers players tried to diffuse the situation, and walked away from the lineman.
Hubbard has started seven games for the Vanderbilt Commodores this season and has been a veteran leader for the team. The offensive lineman is in his final year of collegiate eligibility, and committed to Vanderbilt out of the transfer portal.
Vanderbilt Commodores Must Focus on Offensive Consistency Moving Forward
With just a handful of games left on the schedule, in order for the Vanderbilt Commodores to make a real impact they will have to find consistency on offense.
At times, the Commodores have had some excellent offensive performances at times, and ones that were good enough at other times. The Commodores have a tough stretch ahead with LSU, South Carolina, and Tennessee left on the schedule.
With six wins currently, the Commodores are bowl eligible for the first time in six years, with the last bowl game occurring during the 2018 season. Last time around, the Commodores lost a close game against the Baylor Bears after developing a hot-streak late in the season. Vanderbilt could potential do the same this season, but it will take the best offensive performances they have had.
While the LSU Tigers defense is arguably the worst out of the three, with South Carolina being a close second, both offense can score. LSU especially has been an offensive powerhouse this season despite some issues with interceptions as of late. The Vanderbilt Commodores will likely not be able to completely shutdown the opposing offenses, thus putting an emphasis on playing great offensive against them.
