The Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense looked disjointed all night long against the Detroit Lions. Quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 28-of-50 passes for 228 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

The Buccaneers lost to the Lions by a final score of 24-9. A lot of things did not go Tampa Bay’s way on Monday night. Another thing that did not go their way was the officiating in this football game.

Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell (46) pressures Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield (6) during the first half at Ford Field in Detroit on Monday, Oct. 20, 2025.

After the game, Mayfield spoke to reporters about how the game was officiated on Monday night. The Buccaneers star quarterback said about the double review that occurred during the game,

“Still pretty damn confused about the double review. Lot of things in that game that were a little questionable … when things I don’t deem are fair I’m going to let somebody know.”

Well, someone needs to speak up about the horrible officiating in the NFL. It continues to get worse and worse each and every week. Maybe more people need to speak up about it like Mayfield and maybe the NFL will actually do something about it.

The play that was in question during the game was a Cade Otton reception. He appeared to reach for the first down after a fourth down conversion, but he lost the ball when he was reaching but the ball was recovered by Tampa and moved back to the spot where the football came lose.

Detroit was challenging that the catch was not completed. The Lions won the challenge anyways because Otton was short of the first down marker and they retained their challenge. Well, Detroit was challenging the catch and not the spot of the football. Tampa Bay has every right to be mad about the double challenge. It appears as if the NFL refs have an agenda on a week-to-week basis.
