Steve Sarkisian was recently linked to a few head coaching jobs in the NFL, as many analysts believed that the Texas head coach might be looking for an exit as the Longhorns sit at an overall record of 7-3 in 2025, making the 2026 college football season critical for him, as it’ll be Arch Manning’s second year playing, hence there will be a lot less grace for the team if they dont make it to the playoffs.

Sarkisian has boldly taken stands for his team throughout the season, be it while defending Arch Manning from the critics or sparring with the reporter who insinuated about the onghorns underachieving in 2025.
Sarkisian opened Wednesday’s SEC Coaches Teleconference with a strong opening statement and made it clear that he has no intentions to be anywhere but in Austin. When he was asked to elaborate on his comments later, Sarkisian said:
“Maybe for some of the pundits out there that don’t cover me and cover our program on a regular basis, so that they can understand that they can’t just take their trash out and then have a thought, ‘Hey, I think that Texas is going to have a job opening,’” Sarkisian said, according to Anwar Richardson of Orangebloods.com. “I don’t know, think about something else when you’re taking your trash out.” Sarkisian bluntly added.
The “pundit” Sarkisian is referring to is the college football analyst, Desmond Howard, who shared that he believes the fans shouldn’t be surprised if they see the Texas head coaching job vacant at the end of the season and hinted at a potential firing or mutual parting of ways.
“You guys were shocked when LSU opened up. Imagine how you’re going to feel if that job in Austin pops open. I’m not calling or saying anyone’s going to get fired—maybe a mutual parting of ways, you dig?” Howard said on Instagram.
