Stefon Diggs went from being the focal point of one of the NFL’s most prolific offenses and established Super Bowl contenders to being a piece of an insurgent young roster looking to make a legitimate championship charge this season.
From Josh Allen to C.J. Stroud may not be that big of an adjustment for Diggs who went from Allen’s bonafide No. 1 wide receiver to being a key piece in Stroud’s receiving trio alongside Nico Collins, Tank Dell, and Noah Brown that has the potential to be one of the deepest and most explosive in the league, especially if the second-year quarterback makes the kind of strides many anticipate.
Diggs is fired up about the change.
“It’s not my job to sling the pill around or my job to call the plays,” Diggs told reporters this spring. “I have to get open and catch it. So for me, it’s not anything I worry about considering you do your job, you get the ball. I feel like this offense is one of those offenses that’s got a lot of horses in the stable. Let them all loose. We’ll figure the rest out.”
Stefon Diggs ‘Smiling’ Since Being Traded to Houston Texans
Landing in an offense with a quarterback who passed for 4,108 yards with 23 touchdowns to just five interceptions as a rookie should give Diggs not only the chance to rebound from a somewhat down 1,183-yard and eight-touchdown campaign in 2023 but also the attention defenses must pay him could create opportunities for his explosive teammates at receiver.
“For me, when I got traded, I was happy. I was in a good place,” Diggs said. “When I say I’ve been smiling, I’ve been smiling.”
The Texans, and offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik are counting on Diggs’ big-game experience rubbing off not only on his fellow receivers but also his quarterback, as the franchise hopes to take the next step this season.
“His big thing right now, kind of like we already talked about with some other guys is verbiage, just picking up verbiage,” Slowik recently said. “It is a little bit different than when he was in Buffalo, but there is nothing that he hasn’t seen or done before.
