As the Steelers get ready for their home opener against the New England Patriots, lets take a look at the three defensive keys to success.
First key to success is the front seven. The front seven absolutely dominated the Bengals offensive line getting to Burrow constantly. They ended the game with 7 sacks and a fumble to go along with holding the Bengals offense to 20 points. Cam Heyward and Alex Highsmith bullied the Bengals offensive line combining for half the Steelers seven sacks. There will be plenty of opportunities for them to continue their dominance as the patriots offense struggled to get anything going in their last game. Heyward and Highsmith will need to be big contributors again this week in the absence of TJ Watt.
Second key to success will be the Steelers secondary. They were a big question mark coming into the season but boy did they make a first statement. The entire secondary had a huge game last week. They picked off Joe Burrow four times including one that was taken for a score. Everyone was a huge contributor to the secondary’s success last week. If they can frustrate Mac Jones there will be plenty of opportunities for takeaways this week.
Last key to success this week will be coaches Teryl Austin and Brian Flores. I shouldn’t need to say much on these two after the defensive performance last week. To keep it short if they keep doing what they do there will be no issues.
This game looks to be a very interesting matchup and I am very interested to see how it turns out.
