Desperate times call for desperate measures, and the Pittsburgh Steelers could be gearing up to make a desperate move at quarterback.

After watching Russell Wilson fade down the stretch, and the Steelers’ season come to a crashing end against the Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh is at a crossroads at quarterback.
Rarely an organization to embrace a full-fledged rebuild, the Steelers’ top options appear to be selling off some star players to acquire draft capital to potentially move up for a rookie quarterback in this year’s NFL Draft or in 2026, or, sign a veteran that Pittsburgh believes can elevate the veterans already on the roster this upcoming season.
Could the Steelers Target Aaron Rodgers?

The New York Jets unceremoniously announced that they are moving on from Rodgers, following a woefully disappointing two seasons in the Garden State.
But, the 33rd Team suggests that Rodgers could wind up in a Steelers uniform this fall.
“The Steelers also have the cap flexibility to sign other free agents,” Marcus Mosher writes for The 33rd Team. “Which means they could do a package deal for Rodgers and Davante Adams. This is still just a short-term fix for Pittsburgh, and it likely wouldn’t be enough for them to win the AFC North, but pairing Rodgers with Mike Tomlin has been rumored for years, and now, it could finally happen.
“With so many aging veterans on this roster (Cameron Heyward, T.J. Watt, etc.), Pittsburgh might decide that it is willing to take the risk on the 41-year-old.”
It’s worth wondering just how much Rodgers has left in the tank and how much more effective he would be than Wilson was last season, especially given the Jets’ overall struggles on offense this past season.
Rodgers would most certainly be a one-year rental, at his age, and given the Steelers’ need to invest resources at wide receiver to elevate the offense. But, given that Pittsburgh has been seemingly stuck in quarterback purgatory for years, adding Rodgers feels like desperation personified.
