The Pittsburgh Steelers find themselves at a crossroads as they await Aaron Rodgers’ decision in free agency. With uncertainty surrounding the 42-year-old quarterback’s future, analysts are urging the team to consider trading for Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis to secure a long-term solution.
Levis, a 25-year-old with two years remaining on his rookie contract, offers a mix of potential and experience. Selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, he has started 21 games, throwing for 3,899 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. While inconsistent, his big arm and mobility make him an intriguing developmental option for a Pittsburgh team still searching for stability under center.

Pittsburgh’s current quarterback room includes Mason Rudolph, rookie Will Howard, and undrafted Skylar Thompson. Rudolph is viewed as a stopgap, and Howard projects as more of a long-term project. Analysts argue that acquiring Levis for a mid-round draft pick would provide Pittsburgh with a young quarterback capable of competing immediately while offering a higher ceiling than the current options.
With the Titans drafting Cam Ward first overall in 2025, Levis appears expendable, creating an opportunity for Pittsburgh to capitalize. Offensive coordinator Arthur Smith’s system, known for maximizing quarterbacks with Levis’ skill set, could be an ideal environment for his development. Additionally, Pittsburgh’s strong offensive line and run game would ease the pressure on Levis as he refines his decision-making.
NFL Analysis Urgers Pittsburgh Steelers to Trade for Will Levis

Pittsburgh may do well by making a move for Levis while waiting for the whole Rodgers situation to get sorted. This is detailed more in an analysis by Moe Moton for Bleacher Report.
Regardless of Aaron Rodgers’ decision to play for the Steelers or retire, Pittsburgh should offer a fourth-round pick for Levis. Rodgers will turn 42 in December. At this point, he’s a year-to-year player. Levis has two years left on his rookie deal.
If the Steelers finish the 2025 season with a mediocre record and Rodgers only sticks around for one year, they would at least have an experienced young starter in Levis, whom they can develop for the long term. In seven seasons, Mason Rudolph has been a game manager. At 25, Levis, with his big arm and mobility, has far more upside.
If Rodgers signs with Pittsburgh’s, Levis could serve as a capable backup and long-term successor. If Rodgers declines, Levis would still represent a worthwhile investment to address Pittsburgh’s quarterback uncertainty. Either scenario benefits the franchise’s short- and long-term goals.

By pursuing Levis, the Steelers can secure a viable plan for the future while maintaining competitiveness in the present. His addition would provide much-needed clarity to a position that has lacked stability since Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement.
