The Pittsburgh Steelers just made a move that has the rest of the AFC taking notice. In a season marked by inconsistency on offense, the team is turning to a familiar face from one of the NFL’s most dangerous passing attacks of the past decade — former Aaron Rodgers wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

The Steelers announced that Valdes-Scantling has signed to their practice squad, with a clear path to the active roster if he impresses in the coming weeks. It’s a low-risk, high-upside signing that could add speed and veteran experience to an offense looking for a spark.

Valdes-Scantling — better known as MVS — spent four seasons catching passes from Aaron Rodgers with the Green Bay Packers, where he developed a reputation as one of the league’s more dangerous deep threats. His connection with Rodgers produced some unforgettable moments, including 100-yard games and game-breaking touchdowns that showcased his elite straight-line speed.

Since leaving Green Bay, Valdes-Scantling won two Super Bowl rings with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs before short stints with the 49ers and Titans. Now, at 31, he brings 3,600+ career receiving yards and 20 touchdowns to a Steelers team in need of vertical playmaking.

    Why Pittsburgh Made the Move

The Steelers’ passing game has struggled to find rhythm, and with injuries affecting receiver depth, the front office saw an opportunity to add proven talent.

    • Speed and experience: Valdes-Scantling stretches defenses vertically — something the Steelers’ offense has lacked.
    • Leadership value: His time with Rodgers and Mahomes gives him credibility and insight in high-pressure games.
    • Roster flexibility: Signing him to the practice squad allows the team to evaluate his chemistry before activating him.

To make room for the move, the Steelers released cornerback Beanie Bishop from the practice squad.

    What’s Next

Valdes-Scantling could be elevated to the 53-man roster as early as next week, depending on how quickly he adjusts to the playbook. With the AFC playoff race heating up, one or two explosive plays downfield could be the difference in keeping Pittsburgh’s postseason hopes alive.

For now, the message is clear: the Steelers aren’t standing still — they’re reloading.
