The South Carolina Gamecocks had a 9-3 record in the 2024 college football season, and they were one of the hottest teams in the country toward the end of the season. Fans wanted to see South Carolina in the postseason, but they just missed the playoffs.

Instead, the Gamecocks faced the Illinois Fighting Illini in a bowl game and lost. South Carolina has a lot to look forward to for the upcoming 2025 college football season. Shane Beamer is the head coach and quarterback LaNoris Sellers has a chance to be in the Heisman Trophy conversation. Sellers showed a lot of potential toward the end of the 2024 college football season.

College Football Analyst Thinks That the South Carolina Gamecocks Could Make the Playoffs Out Of the SEC In 2025

Ari Wasserman of on3.com wrote about different SEC and BIG10 teams who missed the playoffs in 2024 who could potentially make it in 2025. The Gamecocks were on the fence of making the postseason in 2024, but Wasserman thinks that South Carolina could be a potential playoff team in 2025. Wasserman said,

“Lagway and Texas quarterback Arch Manning get the bulk of the attention when it comes to emerging SEC quarterback stars, so here’s some love to LaNorris Sellers. South Carolina was very good last season, but now it has a seasoned athletic freak as a starter who has every bit of an opportunity to be a household name in the sport as Lagway. Add in that South Carolina also has one of the best defensive players in the sport in Dylan Stewart, and there is a core that’s pretty solid there. South Carolina has to go from having potential to winning games each week in the SEC. That’s Shane Beamer‘s job to figure out.”

There is no doubt that the Texas Longhorns and the Georgia Bulldogs will most likely make the playoffs from the SEC in 2025. The Tennessee Volunteers made it in 2024 and not a lot of people are expecting them to make the playoffs in 2025 after what transpired in the offseason. The SEC will most likely send at least 3-4 teams to the college football playoffs.

If it is not Tennessee, then the Gamecocks, the LSU Tigers, or the Alabama Crimson Tide will be the most likely candidates to get in from the SEC. There will be high expectations for South Carolina entering the 2025 college football season.
