Sooners are focused on production and fielding a great team going into the 2024 season, but for the rest of us watching the clock tick away the hours, minutes, and seconds until the season starts we need something to pique our interest. April showers might bring May flowers but August brings the first Preseason Coaches poll, debuting the Sooners at no.16 in the nation.

This is a step up from last year’s preseason polls that had us unranked or lower than 15th in the nation after the rebuilding 6-7 season of 2022. The Sooners had some missteps on their way to a 10-3 season in 2023 but overall it was a 10-win season despite the loss to Arizona in the Alamo Bowl, Brent Venables’ second loss in bowl season play.

Being 16th in the nation just means the Sooners need to work that much harder this season to make the College Football Playoff (CFP), even if it is now a 12-team bracket, making that placing will require work from our boys in Crimson and Cream. Our schedule does not favor us but I do not believe that hinders our Sooners.

The Sooners will face off against teams ranked 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 15th in the nation. This will be a monumental task for this squad that returns 84% of its production on defense. The seniors of this team will help lead the Sooners, keep or improve on the output from last year, and make our statement in the Southeastern Conference. This team has a target on their head and many folks have them losing 4-5 games this season but the Sooners are feeling dangerous and looking to make a statement.
