Oklahoma has been on fire so far on the recruiting trail for the 2023 class, and they show no sign of slowing down. On Friday, the Sooners received commitments from two four star players. Venables and co. have done a great job closing out recruiting battles so far, and this seems to be no different. Anthony Evans, one of the commits, was projected to go to Georgia by many insiders and analysts until just earlier this morning. Makari Vickers, the other commit, has been crystal balled to the Sooners for quite some time. With the addition of these two players, Oklahoma now sits at number four in the country in the recruiting rankings. What makes these guys so special? Let’s take a look at what Evans and Vickers could bring to the table for Oklahoma.
Anthony Evans

The first of the two commits is four star WR Anthony Evans. Evans is rated as the 350th player nationally, and is the 45th ranked receiver according to the 247 composite ratings. He hails from Judson High School in Converse, TX. In 2021, he hauled in 35 catches for 491 yards and three touchdowns. While these aren’t exactly eye popping stats, Evans makes up for them with his freakish athleticism. Running a 10.27 100 meter. as well as a sub 4.4 40, he is no stranger to speed. Getting him to Norman was no small feat either, as just this morning, he was ready to commit to Georgia. However, the Sooners made a great final push, and were able to flip Evans at the last minute.
Makari Vickers

Friday night at halftime of Robert F. Monroe’s first game, four star defensive back Makari Vickers officially announced his commitment to Oklahoma. Vickers stands in at 6’1″, 180 pounds. He is Oklahoma’s 22nd commit in the 2023 class, and the 7th top 100 player committed to the Sooners. Four of those top 100 players play on the defensive side of the ball. The Tallahassee native racked up 69 total tackles, as well as two interceptions and two forced fumbles in 2021. He looks to make an even bigger impact for Monroe this season, and ultimately be a key piece in Venables’s defense one day.
