The Atlanta Falcons have a 3-7 record this season after losing to the Carolina Panthers 30-27 in overtime on Sunday. Atlanta has had a disappointing 2025 NFL season to say the least.

Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. was injured during the game on Sunday against Carolina and Kirk Cousins had to come into the game. On Monday, the Falcons Twitter page released a massive update on the Penix injury and said,
“Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. suffered a left-knee injury in Sunday’s game against Carolina. We are working through the medical process to determine the severity of the injury. He will be placed on the reserve/injured list and miss a minimum of four games With the move, Kirk Cousins will assume the starting quarterback role for the Falcons at this time.”
This probably means that the Falcons will probably not play him for the rest of the season. Penix was a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft after Atlanta signed Cousins to a contract. He had injury issues in college, and this is now showing up at the NFL level. This franchise has mismanaged a lot of things with this roster, and the coaching hasn’t been any better either.
Atlanta Falcons Fans Disappointed Over Michael Penix Jr. Injury

There are a lot of fans who are disappointed with the way season has played out for them. The latest Penix injury could be the final straw for this fanbase for the 2025 NFL season. This is what some Atlanta fans had to say about his injury on Twitter:
So sad and embarrassing. The Falcons paid Kirk Cousins all this money and he sucked. Now Penix Jr is going through injury issues like he did in college. I’m thinking we wasted a first round pick on Penix Jr and now we don’t even have another first round pick next draft 🤦♂️

It is interesting that in these comments, Falcons fans want Raheem Morris fired as head coach despite the sad news for Penix. This season, he has completed 60.1 percent of his passes for 1,982 yards, nine touchdowns, and three interceptions. Penix has appeared in nine games.
He is 25 years old. Many people are wondering if he can even be the long-term answer at the quarterback position for the Falcons with all of the injuries he has had in his football career. There are a lot of things wrong with this organization right now.
With Cousins expected to start for the rest of the season, it will be interesting to see how that will go for Atlanta. If they were to lose to the 2-9 New Orleans Saints on Sunday, it is going to be rock bottom for this organization, especially since Penix is out for the season potentially.
