When Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith emerged as a superstar as a freshman in college football, many people were wondering if he would have been a Top 5 selection in the 2025 NFL Draft had he been eligible. Smith will not be eligible until the 2027 NFL Draft and there is a chance that he could be the number one overall pick in that class.

For now, he will look to continue to dominate the college level for the next two seasons. Smith will not only be the best wide receiver in college football, but he could also be the best player in college football. There is a chance that he could be in the running for the Heisman Trophy for the 2025 season.
Ohio State Buckeyes Wide Receiver Jeremiah Smith Ranked Number 1 Player By PFF Entering 2025 Season

Dalton Wasserman and Max Chadwick of pro football focus created there Top 50 players list in the college football landscape entering the 2025 season. At number one, they have the Buckeyes superstar wide receiver Smith on the list. It is interesting that they think that he is the best player in the sport entering the year. They said,
“For the second time ever, and the first since Trevor Lawrence in 2019, a true sophomore leads this list. Smith came to Columbus as the highest-rated recruit from the 2024 class and the highest-rated wide receiver recruit in history. Suffice it to say, the Florida native faced sky-high expectations entering his true freshman season.
And he lived up to them. Immediately.
Smith was the most valuable receiver in college football in 2024, according to PFF WAA. His 89.8 PFF receiving grade ranked third and is more than four points higher than any other returning wideout. He also led the Power Four with 15 receiving touchdowns while trailing only Tetairoa McMillan in receiving yards (1,311).
Smith is an athletic freak at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds with an incredibly refined skill set for someone who turned 19 years old in November.”
Lawrence was the number one overall pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2021 NFL Draft. Just like Smith, he won a national title. Could this be a foreshadow of when Smith could be the number one pick in 2027? Smith during the 2024 season with Ohio State caught 76 passes for 1,315 yards receiving, and 15 touchdowns, along with averaging 17.3 yards per carry.
He also rushed for 47 yards on six carries and one touchdown, along with averaging 7.8 yards per carry. It will be interesting to see what the star Buckeyes wide receiver will do during his sophomore season. Will he have over 1,500 yards receiving for Ohio State in 2025? If so, there is a chance that Smith can very well win the Heisman Trophy.
